For best OCR results:
Flatten the receipt — fold lines and crumples kill OCR. Press it under a book for 30s if needed.
Even, bright lighting — daylight is best. Avoid direct overhead light that creates shadows under raised text.
Receipt fills the frame — get close. Tiny receipt + big background = small text = bad OCR.
Plain dark background — wood, dark fabric, stone. Avoid patterned surfaces.
Square-on, not at an angle — phone parallel to the receipt, not tilted.
Sharp focus — tap the screen on the receipt before shooting.
No glare — angle the phone slightly so reflections fall off the receipt.
Long receipts: split into multiple photos — overlap by ~3 lines so we can stitch.
Paste receipt text directly as DESCRIPTION | PRICE lines (one per
row). Use this when you have a digital receipt or want to skip the OCR.
